Virgin Records Germany Becomes Intercord Records as a New Era of Dance Music Begins

Berlin, October 2025 — One of Europe’s most influential dance labels is entering a new era. Virgin Records Germany has officially rebranded as Intercord Records, marking the start of a bold new chapter in electronic music.

The move, led by Universal Music Germany, celebrates both heritage and evolution — giving the label a name that reflects its true identity: dynamic, international, and deeply rooted in dance culture.

“Intercord signals how far we’ve come and the next step in our evolution,” said Alexander Neipp, VP Marketing at Intercord Records. “We’ve built incredible momentum over the past seven years, and now we’re giving that success its own unmistakable identity — a brand that belongs to our artists, our community, and our future.”

While Intercord’s new chapter begins in 2025, the name itself carries deep roots in music history. Originally founded in 1966, Intercord helped introduce icons like Depeche Mode, Erasure, Yazoo, and Moby to German audiences. Now revived under Universal Music Group, the label aims to redefine what a modern electronic imprint can be — agile, artist-driven, and culture-focused.

With more than 40 billion global streams and a catalogue that defines contemporary dance, Intercord continues to represent names like MEDUZA, James Hype, Topic, HUGEL, and Felix Jaehn, alongside rising artists such as Leony, Ray Dalton, and Alle Farben.

“We built Virgin Records Germany into a powerhouse for electronic music. Now it’s time for the next step,” added Magnus Textor, VP A&R Intercord Records & VP A&R CE Dance Electronic. “The same team, the same drive — but a name that truly matches our ambition and global reach.”

The new identity made its first public appearance during Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE) this October, where Intercord hosted its annual Intercord Mixer at Soho House / Cecconi’s — featuring back-to-back performances from major DJs, surprise guests, and an exclusive unveiling of the brand’s new visuals.

From its roots in Germany’s rich electronic legacy to its forward-thinking global outlook, Intercord Records now stands as both a tribute to the past and a bold statement for the future of dance music.
