Get ready for a thrilling, booze-free night out as Mina, the renowned London-based DJ and producer, unveils her latest venture, Club Soft, at the Colour Factory this coming Sunday, June 18th.
Mina, the creative force behind Earth Kicks and a member of Boko Boko, is set to transform the Hackney Wick garden space into a haven of alcohol-free revelry. She’ll be joined by an electrifying lineup of D-Lish b2b Mahnoor, Fiyahdred, ÌYÁÀLÙ, and Blu Edmunds, promising a night of pure, unadulterated fun.
Six years ago, Mina decided to quit alcohol when she realized it was aggravating her chronic migraines and disrupting her touring schedule. Despite facing some criticism, she remained steadfast in her decision. Now, she aims to shift the spotlight back to the music with Club Soft, hoping it will be the first in a series of alcohol-free events across the city.
Mina shared with DJ Mag, “Our culture and social events are so saturated with alcohol that we often overlook its dominance. However, there are many for whom alcohol simply doesn’t work, and they too deserve to enjoy themselves.”
She added, “Many people are beginning to reassess their relationship with alcohol, and it’s the perfect time to introduce alternative spaces.”
While Mina has graced the stage at Colour Factory for KEEP HUSH events, Club Soft will be her inaugural event as a host at the venue. She expressed her gratitude to Colour Factory for their support and hard work in securing sponsorships and raising awareness for the event.
Mina acknowledged that she’s not the pioneer of alcohol-free events, but she’s excited to bring this concept to the electronic music scene. She also made a conscious effort to feature DJs who represent the alcohol-free community, to demonstrate its presence and strength.
Scheduled from 4 PM to 10 PM on Sunday, Club Soft aims to challenge the late-night drinking culture. Mina questioned, “Why should I have to choose between enjoying my favourite DJ and getting a good night’s sleep? There should be room for both, and that’s exactly what I’m striving to achieve with Club Soft.”
Although Club Soft is currently a standalone event, Mina aspires to host more alcohol-free parties in the future. She was pleasantly surprised by the overwhelming response and hopes this could spark a wave of similar events across London and potentially the UK.
Last year, Mina initiated ‘Funding With Mina’, a platform designed to assist artists with funding applications. This initiative was born out of her experience during the pandemic when she received a grant from the Arts Council to develop her live set with close collaborator, Bryte. Since then, she has helped artists secure funding applications worth over £100,000.
