Ibiza authorities have implemented a new rule requiring all tourists to present proof of accommodation upon arrival. Failure to do so could result in fines of up to €10,000.
- What’s Required: Non-EU passport holders entering Spain as tourists must show a booking confirmation for their rental or a “carta de invitación” from their host, processed by local police.
- Stay Length: Tourists in the Spanish regions are subject to a 90-day stay limit. Overstaying this period could result in substantial fines, even for non-resident homeowners and their guests.
- Additional Requirements: The UK government advises tourists to ensure their passports are valid and have a return or onward ticket.
Background: This policy comes in response to concerns about the impact of unregulated tourism on Ibiza. Local officials have previously considered measures such as banning new holiday rentals to address rising rental costs. Additionally, regulations targeting anti-social behavior in the Balearic Islands have been in effect since 2022, with potential bans for disruptive tourists currently under consideration.
