A 22-year-old man has been arrested at Ibiza Airport after attempting to enter the island with more than 163,000 ecstasy pills in his luggage. The incident occurred when the suspect, arriving from the Netherlands, was stopped by authorities due to the unusually large weight and contents of his suitcases.
Upon inspection, police officers found approximately 50 kilograms of pink tablets openly packed in two large suitcases. The tablets were not hidden or disguised in any way, making the seizure relatively straightforward for airport police.
Some of the pills were marked with “2CB,” a reference to a synthetic psychoactive substance often linked to the drug commonly referred to as “pink cocaine” or “TUSIBI.” Despite the nickname, the substance is not cocaine but rather a combination of synthetic compounds that can have stimulant and hallucinogenic effects.
The arrest was carried out by agents from the UDYCO Central unit of the Spanish National Police, in coordination with the airport’s security services. The young man has since been brought before a judge and is facing charges related to drug trafficking.
Authorities are continuing their investigation to trace the origin of the drugs and determine whether the suspect was part of a larger network. The case comes at the start of Ibiza’s busy summer season, a time when law enforcement typically increases vigilance due to heightened tourism and nightlife activity.
Police have also used this opportunity to warn the public about the dangers of synthetic drugs, especially in recreational settings where combinations with alcohol or other substances can pose serious health risks.
