Authorities in Nevada have opened an investigation after a man was found dead during this year’s Burning Man festival in Black Rock City.
The body was discovered on the evening of August 30, just as celebrations for the annual burning of the wooden effigy were about to begin. Reports state the man was found under “suspicious circumstances”, leading deputies to open a homicide inquiry.
Local law enforcement described the incident as isolated, though they urged festival-goers to remain vigilant while the investigation continues.
Burning Man organisers released a statement following the discovery:
“The safety and well-being of our community are always our highest priority. We ask participants to allow law enforcement to conduct their work without interference.”
The case has added a sombre note to the closing days of the event, which attracts tens of thousands of people from around the world each year to Nevada’s Black Rock Desert.
This marks the third death connected to Burning Man in as many years, after fatalities were also reported in 2023 and 2024.
Authorities have confirmed that more information will be shared once the investigation progresses, with the temporary city expected to be fully dismantled in the coming days.
