Egypt Might Ban Raves at the Pyramids of Giza After Lawsuit Raises Concerns

A new legal case in Egypt could bring an end to the growing trend of electronic music events held near the iconic Pyramids of Giza.

The Egyptian Center for Economic and Social Rights (ECESR) has officially filed a lawsuit against Egypt’s Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, the Supreme Council of Antiquities, and the Governor of Giza, claiming that loud parties, lasers, and heavy stage setups threaten the integrity of the 4,500-year-old monuments.

The case, filed in the Administrative Court under Case No. 1958/80, argues that such events risk damaging the ancient stones through strong vibrations and light pollution. It also warns that the area’s historical and cultural value could be compromised by frequent entertainment events that are not properly regulated.

In the filing, ECESR called for tighter restrictions — or even a full ban — on raves and large-scale music festivals around the Giza Plateau. The group also asked for limits on any temporary construction or modifications made to host these events.

This move follows a wave of high-profile concerts and electronic shows near the pyramids, which have drawn massive crowds and international attention. While these events are popular among fans, critics argue they can disturb the sacred and historical atmosphere of the site.

So far, no official ban has been announced, and the court has not yet ruled on the case. However, if the lawsuit succeeds, it could effectively stop future raves and concerts from taking place at the Pyramids of Giza.

The case has sparked debate online — some people believe Egypt should protect its heritage from potential harm, while others think modern music events help promote tourism and global cultural exchange.

For now, the future of raving at the pyramids remains uncertain — and many in the dance-music world are watching closely to see what happens next.
