Massive Illegal Rave at the Ex-Bugatti Factory Near Modena

Thousands of ravers from across Italy and Europe gathered at the long-abandoned Bugatti Automobili plant in Campogalliano, transforming the empty factory into a massive Halloween dance floor. The crowd, estimated at over 5,000 people, arrived overnight on October 31 and continued partying well into the next day — complete with sound systems, tents, and camper vans set up in the industrial lot.

The spontaneous event caused major traffic jams on nearby roads and raised concerns about safety, noise, and property damage. Police quickly surrounded the area, setting up roadblocks and checking IDs. More than 300 people were identified and at least one arrest was made for possession of illegal substances. Officers also seized various pieces of audio equipment and recorded the licence plates of dozens of vehicles for further investigation.

Tensions escalated on the morning of November 1, when some attendees tried to force their way through police barriers. Bottles were thrown and tear gas was used as law enforcement attempted to disperse the crowd. Local residents reported sleepless nights, blocked access roads, and loud music echoing across the area.

Authorities condemned the occupation, reminding organisers and participants that Italy’s anti-rave law, introduced in 2022, carries penalties of up to six years in prison for those responsible for unlicensed mass gatherings. The mayor of Campogalliano has since ordered a clean-up and launched an investigation into how the site was accessed.

Meanwhile, videos from the rave have gone viral online — showing a mix of chaotic energy, unity, and defiance. Some praised the event’s spirit of freedom, while others criticised the risks and disregard for local residents.
