Eddy Palermo sets Guinness World Record: First person to run an ultramarathon while DJing live

Miami-based electronic artist and entrepreneur Eddy Palermo has officially entered the Guinness World Records after becoming the first person to complete an ultramarathon while DJing live. The groundbreaking achievement, dubbed BPMATHON, saw Palermo merge two of his defining passions, electronic music and endurance sport, into a single, unprecedented feat.

On Saturday, 8th August 2026, Palermo completed 46.7 kilometres while DJing continuously for eight hours along The Underline, Miami’s 10-mile linear park and urban trail that stretches from Brickell to Dadeland beneath the Metrorail. The following day, despite being sore and struggling to move, he returned to a treadmill to finish the remaining distance and hit his 50-kilometre target, securing the world-first record.

The challenge was live-streamed globally, allowing audiences worldwide to follow the attempt in real time. To make it possible, Palermo performed using a custom-built, self-pushed DJ rig on wheels, using a modified stroller setup that enabled him to run and mix simultaneously for hours. His mobile rig featured AlphaTheta’s OMNIS DUO controller, while WAVE EIGHT speakers provided the public audio experience along The Underline.

Palermo didn’t mince words about the difficulty of the undertaking. “That was a wild ride. That was the longest DJ set I’ve ever played, and the 2nd longest run in my life,” he said. “Doing both at the same time is hard to describe. Not to mention this was peak Miami summer heat and I pushed a 70lb cart the whole time.”

He added that there were moments deep in what endurance athletes call “the pain cave” when he’d realise a track was ending and think, “Oh no… I have to DJ right now.”

Born in Miami to Cuban and Italian parents and raised in Weston, Florida, Palermo’s life has long been shaped by music, sport and an appetite for pushing limits. As a teenager, he discovered electronic music at Ultra Music Festival and later spent countless hours at Club Space, experiences that would inform his career in events, sales and entrepreneurship. Between 2020 and 2025, he completed 14 endurance races, including seven Ironman competitions and seven marathons, using endurance sport as a foundation for discipline, resilience and mental strength, values that now sit at the heart of BPMATHON.

For Palermo, the most special part of BPMATHON wasn’t the record itself but the community that showed up. “The most special part of BPMATHON was how many people came out to run and/or support. The energy in the air was incredible, and it’s all thanks to everyone that came out to support,” he said.

Beyond the record, BPMATHON was created to encourage people to get outside, move their bodies and reconnect with their passions. The initiative raised money in support of Friends of The Underline, a Miami-based nonprofit dedicated to transforming public space into opportunities for healthier, more active living. In a world increasingly shaped by AI, screens and social media, Friends of The Underline’s mission encourages people to move, decompress and spend more time outdoors through running, biking, walking and other forms of movement. BPMATHON aimed to support that mission by bringing people together around an accessible, community-driven celebration of movement.

“The best feeling ever is people reaching out saying that it was their longest run they’ve ever done,” Palermo said. “That’s the deeper reason for all of this; letting others know that they can do whatever it is they want in life, and inspiring them to get outside and do more than they thought possible. We’re excited about the future of BPMATHON. We’re already planning the next one as we speak.”

At its core, BPMATHON demonstrates what can happen when passion meets discipline. What began as an idea to combine two of Palermo’s greatest passions has now become a Guinness World Record and the first chapter of a broader vision to unite music, endurance and wellness. Palermo plans to curate further BPMATHON events globally, turning the record into a movement that inspires communities, promotes positive lifestyle choices and encourages people to push beyond their perceived limits.
