A 22-year-old Italian woman has died following a shooting outside the Aarauer Rave in Aarau, Switzerland.
Maria Spinelli was attending the techno event on Saturday night when gunfire broke out at around 2:30 AM, as people were beginning to leave the venue.
Around 3,500 people had attended the event. Maria was killed at the scene, while five other people were injured in the shooting.
Originally from Abruzzo, Italy, Maria had moved to Switzerland only weeks earlier for work. She had studied hospitality and was known for her passion for techno and electronic music.
Swiss police have launched a major investigation and are still searching for whoever was responsible.
Investigators reportedly recovered ammunition from two different calibres at the scene, raising the possibility that more than one weapon was used. Authorities have not yet confirmed whether there was one shooter or multiple people involved.
The motive behind the attack also remains unknown.
The organisers of Aarauer Rave released a statement following the incident, saying they were devastated by what had happened and expressing their condolences to everyone affected.
For a scene built around people coming together through music, the news has hit particularly hard.
Maria would have turned 23 in October.
Our thoughts are with her family, friends, the injured and everyone who was at the event.
Rest in peace, Maria. ❤️
