London’s iconic nightclub, Heaven, has been temporarily closed following serious allegations involving its security staff. In early November 2024, a woman reported being raped near the venue by a member of the club’s security team. The accused guard, identified as 47-year-old Morenikeji Adewole from Dartford – also known as Olu Julius or Olusolu Alabi – has been arrested and charged with rape. He is currently in custody awaiting trial.
Further concerns arose when it was reported that other staff members allegedly ignored the victim’s attempts to report the incident, sparking widespread outrage and leading to immediate action from authorities. In response, Westminster Council suspended Heaven’s operating license for up to 28 days, citing public safety as the primary reason for the closure.
This decision follows another troubling incident earlier this year, in May, when three members of the venue’s security team were filmed assaulting a patron, raising ongoing concerns about how the club manages the safety and well-being of its customers.
Heaven’s management has expressed deep regret over the recent allegations, stating they are “sickened” by the events and are committed to implementing stronger safety measures. They are considering appealing the council’s decision, and have emphasized their priority to put new procedures in place to prevent such incidents in the future.
The temporary closure has cast a shadow over the reputation of the club, which has been a beloved space for London’s LGBTQ+ community since it opened in 1979. While investigations continue, the future of this legendary venue depends on its ability to regain trust and ensure a safe environment for all who visit.
